Like a fast wave riding through the waters Gus Rings third single from his upcoming album Hypnoseas is kicked off with a fast paced guitar rhythm together with beautiful glockenspiel. The chorus is accompanied by a post-rock guitar sound and choirs tying together the album theme with a clever wordplay of; “So let these rivers flow, for our thought-waves to swim in, rearrange until there’s open seas”. The lyrics are made of up of a bunch of different questions, and as Gus Ring has stated that he is into meditation, it feels like he’s trying to bring presence to our ability to change our thoughts and actions, living more in the moment. As the song unfolds a guitar solo travels into an outro of layered guitars, ending up into an atmospheric noise making the song disappear out of existence.
Gus Ring plays acoustic dreampop. Growing up playing trumpet in orchestras to screaming in metal and hardcorebands Gus found his love for fragile, honest and melancholic music in his early 20’s. Originating from the do-it-yourself scene, the second album Hypnoseas is recorded and mixed by Gus in his closet studio. Intimate, dreamy and melancholic moments frozen in time and caught on tape. The lyrical themes are of loneliness, love and introversion and it feels almost like this is Gus only way of daring to tell these things. In a world full of perfect productions and auto-tuned vocals, Hypnoseas is an album that is honest, pure and straight from the heart.
